Aeli didn't mind.
He's in a serious clown phase that I am anticipating may be more than just a phase. He will do practically anything to get a laugh. Currently one of my least-favorite tricks of his involves "lick attacking" you. He pretends like he's coming in for a kiss and then just gets you with his wet little tongue. Pretty funny to watch, but also: gross.
I'm already anticipating the teacher phone-calls.
Deception Pass |
We actually had a big handful of beautiful days while we were there,
including the day of my sister's graduation ("Outstanding Graduate," holler!), and the first day of our
big (for me) 2.5 day bike ride.
One of my favorite parts of our "tour" was the 6 hours before we started. We spent the time walking around Bellingham and eating a very late brunch in all of our bike gear. It was great how people gave affirming head-nods and generally treated us like we were Experienced Athletes. Ha-HA!
We went from Bellingham to Port Townsend on our human-powered machines, and then bussed and ferried back to Seattle. We were going to continue on two wheels to the Bainbridge ferry, but that last push to Port Townsend was November-cold, not to mention the wind, which seemed bent on neutralizing nearly all the forward-motion produced by my spindly, out-of-shape legs. Plus, I was starting to really miss Aeli. So we once we were safely seated on the ferry, I told Stefin I was over it. He was gracious about my early-quitting, and we used the bus ride to read more of Zeitoun, by Dave Eggers, which is troubling and stunning and excellent.
Other important themes from our bike trip:
1. Breweries make excellent late-afternoon stops.
2. I have had about enough of biking up hills.
You know, just in case you thought he was always 100% adorable. |
